So ever since I’ve become more aware of my surroundings as a black girl I’ve noticed little passive aggressive things that have caught my attention recently. Like a few days ago I went to the beach with my friends and this woman was recording us now this is the second time this month that I’ve been recorded. And both times were not subtle at all!! It’s just so disappointing that as a person of color I’m already deemed a problem and have to be “watched”. It’s crazy because when I’m out with friends I feel like I can’t truly be myself or I’ll be deemed the ”ratchet” girl.
There are so many problems in this community as a whole it’s crazy how we will take a step forward while taking two steps back. Like there’s a big difference in preference and then blatant racism they are two hugely different things. Telling a girl of color “oh your beautiful but I don’t date girls of color” is literally bs!!! Like if you are gonna say that please just keep it to yourself. You didn’t make my day by telling me I’m cute for my race but you won’t date me like thanks but no thanks.
As a woman of color I believe that there is not a lot of representation of us out there. And when there is I feel like no one want to share that. Like when black woman want to cosplay as an anime character they get back lash and people telling them that their not doing it right. But I feel we should be one community and lift each other up. But there is a huge difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation. Take from ones culture and making it “yours” is so bad! Like with the fox eye “trend” for example that’s mimicking the eye shape of a lot of asian people out there. And the fact that some people don’t understand why it’s offensive shows the ignorance that is among us and instead of people trying to learn for this they instead try to deflect what people are trying to tell them and play the victim.
